Terroir Wines BDX 2011

Martinborough | $67

Our BDX 2011 is an exciting assemblage of Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc & Merlot in equal thirds. The grapes were sourced from old vines planted near the heart of Martinborough, formally Benfield & Delamare. Each variety was fermented separately and aged in a mix of Hungarian and French oak barriques for 18 months prior to blending and bottling. BDX 2011 is dark & intensely aromatic with a volume of ripe fine tannin that will aid the wine to evolve in the cellar drinking well through to 2025 and possibly beyond. A very limited production of 800 bottles.                          Terroir Wines  – Tasting Notes

“Dark, deep, black-red colour with garnet hues, a little lighter on the rim. The bouquet is fine in proportion with well-ripened, aromatic black berry and plum fruits harmoniously entwined with spice notes, cedary oak. This is beautifully refined, integrated and has real intensity of fragrance. Medium-full bodied, the palate features an elegantly concentrated core with fine and firm flavours of sweetly ripened blackberry, blackcurrant and plum fruit, with notes of liquorice and spices, unveiling subtle layers of cedar and pencilly oak. The fruit is underlined by very fine-grained, powdery tannin extraction providing a refined structure that allows the fruit sweetness to prevail. The wine carries to an elegant, lingering, nuanced finish of black fruits and oak. This is a refined, concentrated Bordeaux-styled red with black berry and plum fruits, with cedary oak and very fine structure.” 18.5/20 Raymond Chan

Terroir Wines is the Martinborough boutique wine and lifestyle venture of Simon Groves and Amanda Ritchie who have a property on Dry River Road where they live, “farm sheep, cattle and chickens” planting grapes in 2015. Their philosophy is to source fruit from special sites to make their wines until their own vineyard came into production.
