Pegasus Bay Gewürztraminer 2016

North Canterbury | $43

On release it is a bright lemon/lime colour. The abundant aromas and flavours suggest ripe quinces, pawpaw, rose petal, Turkish musk, oriental spice and sherbet, underpinned with hints of sandalwood and honeysuckle. In the mouth, the wine is rich, big boned, unctuous and complex with an impression of freshly crushed ginger that complements the off dry finish. Pegasus Bay Tasting Notes

“Bright, light golden-yellow colour with good depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full and voluminous with, bold, up-front and deep aromas of ripe tropical and exotic fruits, with lychees, root ginger and minerals, along with musk, Turkish Delight and honied elements. Medium-dry to taste, the palate has mouthfilling flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, exotic tropical fruits and root ginger layered with Turkish Delight, musk and honied notes, forming a deep, well-packed heart. The palate has weight and presence with the lush flavours balanced and driven by alcohol power and enriched by the warmth. The acidity is integrated, lending some roundness to the mouthfeel, and the wine exudes a subtle unctuousness. The alcohol power and fruit richness carry the wine to a strong, sustained, sweet and savoury, spicy, aromatic finish. This is a rich and luscious, weighty and powerful medium-dry Gewurztraminer with exotic fruit, root ginger and musk flavours with some alcoholic power and drive.” 18.5/20 Raymond Chan
