The colour is like fresh pale straw.
The nose is flinty and mineral with obscure (hard to define) fruit notes alongside nutty yeast characters and whisky lactone seasoning from the low-impact French barriques.
The palate has a vibrant ‘attack’ of fruit with a seam of fresh acidity, keeping the structure tight and focussed as it moves through to a long and persistent finish. Power and elegance side by side.
The grapes were hand-picked from low-yielding vines on a very steep north-facing limestone terrace. 100% barrel-fermented in non-new French barriques.
Total production of 1448 bottles, estate bottled and labelled and individually hand-numbered. The wine is designed to age slowly and gracefully in the bottle. Cellar for 5-8 years. de la terre – Tasting Notes
Hawke's Bay
We are a small family-run business, owned and operated by Tony and Kaye Prichard, and Gracie, the Winery Dog (our self-appointed Welcoming Committee). We produce small volumes of high quality wines with the emphasis on elegance, texture and balance. We have a quirky mix of grape varieties which allows us to create a full range of wine styles from Methode Traditionnelle, Blanc de Blancs, simple and complex white wines, a selection of lesser known (in New Zealand) red grape varieties, through to a Sauternes-style Noble Viognier.
