Big Sky Wines Pinot Noir 2018

Martinborough | $45

“Sweetly fruited and fabulously lifted, the bouquet shows dark cherry, plum, vanilla, game and mixed spice aromas, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate that is supple and fleshy. The wine offers terrific fruit purity together with delightful spicy complexity, finishing long and delicious.”

95/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

“Offering very good value, the 2018 vintage (5) was estate-grown and matured in French oak casks (15 per cent new.) Full-coloured, it is fragrant, mouthfilling and sweet-fruited, with generous, ripe cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, good tannin support, and a savoury, finely structured finish. A very ageworthy wine, it’s well worth cellaring to mid-2021+.”

Big Sky

We are a small, family-owned vineyard, making limited production hand-crafted Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Grüner Veltliner and Rosé from our low-cropping single block vineyard in Te Muna, Martinborough. For us, fine wine is all about place. And people. That’s what gives wines personality and soul.

Our philosophy is simple. Make the best wines we can, not the most wine we can. That means being hands on, and only as big as we can be with us involved at every step.

Our goal is wines that are a true expression of place. We do that best by being very attentive in the vineyard, and a light touch in the winery.

And since terroir is at the heart of our wines, we look after the environment. We live there. With our family. Why would we want to mess it up? So at Big Sky we practice certified sustainable viticulture, and are committed to using organic principles when we can.
