With just 800 vines of the outstanding Bordeaux Clone 481 in our vineyard, production is naturally limited to a maximum of around 85 cases per year dependent on climatic conditions.
The Alexander Merlot 2019 is subtly restrained on the nose with well-concentrated and elegantly packed aromas of ripe blackberries, black plums, spice and cedar. The palate has real power with a sweetly-rich, well-balanced and sustained finish of black fruits with cassis, dark chocolate, liquorice and toasty oak nuances echoing its’ Bordeaux heritage.
Aged in French oak, 33% new, this young but outstanding wine will benefit from cellaring for up to ten years.
Serve with roast beef, hearty casseroles and a surprisingly great accompaniment to a dark chocolate tart.
Very limited availability – only 1,023 bottles made
Martinborough
Alexander Vineyard is a small family owned and operated estate specialising in the production of truly handcrafted premium wines that combines the outstanding grape-growing climate of New Zealand with a European winemaking heritage to offer ‘the best of both worlds in a glass’.
The owners/winemakers, Michael Finucane and Roz Walker, arrived from the UK in 1996 with both their two young daughters in tow and a desire to make wines of outstanding quality, planting their home vineyard the following year.
